Japan Develops Hydrogen Corridor for Road Transport with Major Industry Support
Japan's initiative for a hydrogen corridor aims to enhance road haulage logistics across the country, spanning over 1,300 kilometers. This project, supported by major players like Toyota, Isuzu, and Hino, focuses on deploying more than 1,000 fuel cell electric commercial vehicles to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency in freight transport.
Japan is establishing a hydrogen corridor, dubbed the 'hydrogen aorta,' to link Fukushima and Fukuoka over 1,300 kilometers. The initiative includes the deployment of over 1,000 fuel cell electric commercial vehicles, targeting economic viability and operational efficiency.
Currently, there are 154 hydrogen refueling stations, with plans to expand this network along the corridor to support freight transport. The Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field, a major production facility, supports this initiative.
Collaborations between Toyota, Isuzu, and Hino aim to develop vehicles that enhance range and refueling speed. The project represents a phased approach extending beyond 2030, with existing infrastructure needing significant densification.
