Japan's DASSAI MOON Project and OHISAMA Solar Initiative Progress
DASSAI and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries completed a successful sake brewing experiment in space, demonstrating fermentation under lunar conditions. Meanwhile, Japan's OHISAMA project aims to pioneer space-based solar power transmission by 2026, potentially transforming renewable energy access.

The DASSAI MOON Project, a collaboration between DASSAI and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, successfully confirmed sake fermentation aboard the ISS, with an alcohol content of 12%. Brewed mash was returned to Earth for refinement, yielding 116ml of sake, which will be sold to fund space development efforts.
Concurrently, Japan's OHISAMA project targets the launch of a satellite in 2026 to test space-based solar power transmission, initially aiming for 1 kilowatt output. This initiative seeks to address energy limitations on Earth and could lead to larger future projects that provide consistent clean energy. Both endeavors reflect Japan's commitment to innovation in space and energy sectors, while challenges in costs and efficiency remain critical to address.
