Japan's MMX Mars Moon Mission Prepares for November Launch
Japan's MMX mission is set to launch in late 2026, aiming to collect samples from Phobos and return them to Earth by 2031.

The MMX mission has reached Tanegashima spaceport, with a launch slated for November or December 2026 aboard an H3 rocket. Following delays due to previous rocket failures, the mission is now proceeding, targeting Mars orbit by 2027 and landing on Phobos in 2029 to collect approximately 10 grams of samples.
These samples will return to Earth in 2031, facilitating research on the origins of Martian moons and their formation. The mission includes the IDEFIX rover, which will gather data to assist in landing operations. This initiative continues Japan's history of successful sample-return missions.
