JERA Secures $1 Billion Loan for Louisiana's Blue Point Ammonia Project
JERA has secured a loan exceeding $1 billion for its Blue Point production project in Louisiana, USA. The loan, led by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), is co-financed by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Mizuho Bank, and SBI Shinsei Bank, with JBIC contributing up to JPY150 billion ($945 million).
In early 2025, JERA, Mitsui & Co., and CF Industries formed a joint venture, allocating 40% to CF Industries, 35% to JERA, and 25% to Mitsui. The project aims for a production capacity of approximately 1.4 million tons of CCS-based ammonia annually. The loan supports government contracts for ammonia imports, with transport arrangements in place to JERA’s Hekinan Thermal Power Station in Aichi Prefecture.
