Jiangxi Copper Company Acquires SolGold, Takes Control of Cascabel Project in Ecuador

Jiangxi Copper Company Limited (JCC) has completed the acquisition of SolGold, taking control of the Cascabel project in Imbabura, Ecuador. The deal, valued at €867 million (approximately $1.16 billion), was finalized on March 4, 2026, after receiving court approval.

Construction of the Cascabel mine is scheduled to start in 2027, with production expected to begin in 2031, marking an investment of $4.209 billion. The project has already created 3,116 jobs as of Q3 2025.

The mine's initial production phase is set to last 28 years, with reserves estimated at 540 million tons. The acquisition reflects the growing involvement of Chinese firms in Ecuador's mining sector.
