Jindal Steel Plans Advanced Hydrogen-Ready Ironmaking Facility in Oman

CARBON CAPTUREHYDROGEN

Jindal Steel, a prominent player in the Indian steel industry, is embarking on an ambitious project to develop a second hydrogen-ready direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Duqm, Oman. This facility is designed to produce an impressive 2.5 million tonnes of green iron annually, utilizing a cutting-edge blend of 80% hydrogen and 20% fossil gas, highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

The order for the DRI plant has been placed with the renowned Italian technology firm Danieli, which will employ its Energiron DRI technology. While the details of the order's binding nature remain undisclosed, the move signifies Jindal's strategic push towards innovative ironmaking solutions. Once operational, the plant will convert iron into hot briquetted iron (HBI), facilitating both storage and export, and further establishing Jindal Steel's footprint in the global market for environmentally friendly steel production.
