Johnson Controls to Invest S$60 Million in Singapore Innovation Center for AI Cooling Technologies

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Johnson Controls plans to invest up to S$60 million (US$44 million) to expand its Innovation Center in Singapore over five years. The expansion aims to address the demand for energy-efficient data center infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region.

The facility will focus on developing next-generation cooling, thermal management, and intelligent automation technologies for AI and cloud-driven environments. Johnson Controls intends to increase its engineering team to 90-100 staff to enhance energy efficiency while accommodating higher rack densities.

The center will collaborate with universities and technology partners to test cooling solutions, including liquid and hybrid systems for hyperscale data centers in tropical climates. The Singapore site will function as a regional hub for data center R&D, as current data center electricity demand in Singapore is around seven percent, projected to rise with increasing AI workloads.
