Johor to Establish EV Battery Manufacturing Facility with Gotion High-Tech
Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that the state government is finalizing discussions with Gotion High-Tech to establish an electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing facility in Johor. Gotion, partially owned by Volkswagen Group, aims to make Johor a regional hub for EV battery production and energy storage systems, contributing to sustainable economic development.
The facility will focus on battery pack manufacturing and module integration. In a related development, Sapura Industrial Berhad revealed a joint venture with China's Zhejiang Zhongze Precision Technology to produce EV battery components in Malaysia, specifically high-precision storage battery casings. This partnership will handle corporate matters and sourcing of the plant location, while Zhejiang Zhongze will provide machinery and technical support.
