Joint Action Plan Initiated to Combat Pollution in Gregory Lake

An urgent action plan has been initiated to combat escalating water pollution at Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya. A management committee will be formed with representatives from multiple government bodies, including the Sri Lanka Navy and the Central Environmental Authority, to oversee immediate pollution control measures.

The existing 13-pond natural treatment system will be reactivated, alongside efforts to enhance natural aeration and filtration to mitigate foul odours and nutrient levels. Long-term strategies will focus on preventing wastewater from entering the lake, ensuring its environmental quality and tourism appeal are preserved. Effective implementation of these measures is critical to safeguarding this key ecological area.
