Meghan Cook Appointed as New York's Chief Cyber Officer

Meghan Cook has been appointed as the Chief Cyber Officer of New York State, taking over from Michaela Lee, who served in an acting capacity. Cook's responsibilities will involve strengthening cyber defenses for public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Lee, who was appointed acting chief in March 2023 after Colin Ahern's transition to director of security and intelligence, will remain as Cook's deputy during the transition. Under Lee's leadership, new cybersecurity regulations were developed for water and sewer operations, and artificial intelligence was utilized for cyber defense.

Cook's experience includes prior work in counterterrorism and as program manager for a university technology center, indicating a strong background for her new role. This transition highlights the ongoing commitment of New York State to enhance cybersecurity measures.
