Joint Task Force 401 Enhances Counter-Drone Capabilities at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling
A specialized joint team led by JIATF-401 conducted counter-drone technology tests from April 22-25, addressing growing threats from small Unmanned Aerial Systems (s-UAS) to U.S. military installations. This initiative underscores the necessity of interagency collaboration to bolster national security and enhance counter-UAS defenses.

From April 22-25, Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) conducted tests of counter-drone technologies at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, involving U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and Federal Aviation Administration representatives.
Established in August 2025, JIATF-401 aims to provide advanced counter-UAS capabilities to U.S. forces. The training included assessments of JBAB's defenses and preparation for significant events such as America's 250th anniversary, highlighting the need for coordinated airspace security efforts.
U.S. Northern Command is establishing mobile teams with 'fly-away kits' for rapid threat response. Effective implementation of layered defenses is crucial as adversaries evolve their tactics, necessitating a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach.
