Jordan Develops Alternative Water Plan After Expiration of Israeli Agreement
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION
The Jordanian government has developed an alternative water plan following the expiration of its agreement with Israel for 50 million cubic meters of water annually. This plan was initiated in 2025 under the prime minister's direction to ensure water security.
The National Water Carrier project, also known as the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance project, aims to supply 300 million cubic meters of water annually and is expected to be finalized soon. In parallel, Jordan has reopened discussions with Syria on water cooperation, addressing issues related to illegal wells and enhancing resource sharing.
