Jurisdiction Clarified for Proposed Tagdale Ammonia Plant in Shetland
The Shetland Islands Council confirms the proposed Tagdale ammonia plant spans three community council areas, which is crucial for local governance. This clarification follows objections raised by community councils regarding environmental concerns and insufficient information on the project's implications.

The Shetland Islands Council (SIC) has determined that Statkraft's proposed Tagdale ammonia plant falls under the jurisdiction of Lerwick, Scalloway, and Tingwall, Whiteness and Weisdale Community Councils. The Tingwall, Whiteness and Weisdale Community Council (TWWCC) is the primary area affected, while minor portions lie within Lerwick and Scalloway.
Objections from Lerwick councilors highlight concerns over hazardous gas emissions and inadequate project information. The TWWCC previously submitted objections, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive landscape and visual impact assessment. The development's implications for the natural heritage and industrial growth in the region remain contentious.
