K-pop Fans Mobilize Against Hana Bank's Fossil Fuel Financing in Indonesia
A K-pop fan organization, Kpop4planet, has launched a campaign against Hana Bank for financing nickel production linked to coal energy. This mobilization highlights growing concerns over environmental impacts and corporate responsibility in the banking sector.

Kpop4planet, with over 280,000 social media followers, initiated the campaign 'Hana, K-pop before coal' in December. The campaign targets Hana Bank, which has financed the Harita Group, a nickel producer in Indonesia, known for using coal power.
The bank, popular in Indonesia and associated with K-pop stars like G-Dragon and Ahn Yu-jin from Ive, faces scrutiny for its environmental commitments. The ongoing financing of Harita, particularly its coal plant on Obi Island, has raised alarms among activists who argue it contradicts the bank's climate pledges. The impact of public pressure from K-pop fans could influence corporate sustainability practices.
