Karis Critical Proposes Single Data Center Near Naperville Amid Resident Opposition
Karis Critical, based in Naples, Florida, is seeking approval from the Naperville City Council for a single data center near Naperville and Warrenville roads, following a reduction from its original plan for two facilities. The proposal includes a draft development agreement that mandates the data center to purchase all electricity from the city, with a peak demand capped at 36 megawatts.
City staff report that existing electrical capacity can support the project until 2030, but caution that significant upgrades may be needed for future large-load customers in the I-88 corridor. Resident opposition continues due to concerns about noise, air quality, and the impact on land use along the corridor. Karis has committed at least $250 million in investment for the project, emphasizing its strategic location near the Indian Hill substation.
