Kazakhstan Targets Strategic Lithium Extraction with New Partnerships
Kazakhstan is advancing its lithium extraction capabilities, with commercial mining expected to commence based on ongoing geological exploration. The involvement of local firms, KIGAM, and HMS Bergbau AG indicates a significant investment in the lithium sector, crucial for meeting the projected quadrupling of global lithium battery demand by 2030.

Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Industry and Construction, Iran Sharkhan, announced that commercial lithium extraction is on the horizon, contingent on ongoing geological exploration. Four promising sites, including Bakennoye and Maralushenskoye deposits, have been identified in East Kazakhstan, with partnerships forming between Kazakh companies, KIGAM, and HMS Bergbau AG.
Additionally, further exploration is set for the Aral Sea basin area. The establishment of joint ventures with national companies like Tau-Ken Samruk and foreign investors is also anticipated. The global demand for lithium batteries is expected to quadruple by 2030, increasing the strategic importance of these developments.
