KazMunayGas and Lanzajet Formalize Partnership for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Plant in Kazakhstan
A meeting took place in New York between Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of KazMunayGas, and Lanzajet executives Jimmy Samartzis and Stefan Thion to discuss a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant in Kazakhstan. A framework agreement was signed, transitioning the project into the front-end engineering design phase, following a successful feasibility study. The demand for SAF in Kazakhstan is projected to reach 70,000 tons annually by 2030, contributing to low carbon development and enhancing the country's biofuel market.
In a significant development for Kazakhstan's biofuel market, a meeting was held in New York between Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of the Management Board of NC KazMunayGas, and Lanzajet’s leadership, including CEO Jimmy Samartzis and Vice President for Commercial Affairs Stefan Thion. The discussions centered on the successful completion of a feasibility study for a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant in Kazakhstan, paving the way for future collaboration.
Following their discussions, a framework agreement was formalized, marking a crucial step forward as the project transitions into the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase. This phase is essential for developing the technical and economic solutions necessary for the construction of the facility. Market analysis indicates a burgeoning demand for SAF in Kazakhstan, which could soar to 70,000 tons annually by 2030.
Khasenov emphasized that this joint venture is poised to significantly bolster bilateral cooperation while aligning with global low carbon development goals. Moreover, it promises to introduce cutting-edge technologies that will enhance the environmental performance of aviation and elevate Kazakhstan’s stature in the biofuel market.
