KDDI Trials Humanoid Robot for Osaka Metro Customer Service
KDDI is testing a humanoid robot for customer service on the Osaka Metro from August 31 to September 15, utilizing Google's Gemini AI. This initiative aims to address staff shortages and explore AI applications in public transport.

KDDI is set to evaluate a humanoid robot as a customer service assistant on the Osaka Metro between August 31 and September 15. The robot will use Google's Gemini AI model to interact with passengers, providing information about station layouts, local attractions, and transfers in multiple languages, including English and Chinese.
The initiative, developed alongside Avita and city officials, reflects a broader trend of companies investigating physical AI solutions to mitigate labor shortages. NTT Docomo and LG Uplus have also introduced robotic applications in maintenance and security, indicating a growing interest in practical AI deployment.
