Kemira Completes Successful Trial of Chlorine-Free DEX Wastewater Treatment in the US
Kemira has finalized its first full-scale US trial of KemConnect DEX, a chlorine-free wastewater treatment technology. Conducted with Capital Region Water, the trial demonstrated rapid bacteria reduction and adaptation to varying water conditions, paving the way for sustainable alternatives in wastewater management.

Kemira completed its inaugural full-scale trial of the chlorine-free wastewater treatment solution, KemConnect DEX, in collaboration with Capital Region Water in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Over a month, the trial confirmed that the performic acid-based solution effectively reduced bacteria levels even at low doses and degraded into biodegradable compounds, enhancing water quality and minimizing environmental impact.
The DEX system automates treatment dosing using real-time data, addressing fluctuations in water quality without significant infrastructure costs. The positive results indicate a viable alternative to chlorine disinfection, aligning with stricter environmental regulations and advancing sustainable practices in wastewater treatment. This development may inspire broader adoption of chlorine-free technologies in the sector.
