Kenosha Water Utility Discharges Diluted Wastewater into Storm Sewer
To mitigate flood risks, the Kenosha Water Utility discharged diluted wastewater into the storm sewer system, affecting Lake Michigan. The release occurred on April 15 during heavy rainfall, with 2.78 inches recorded over 48 hours.

On April 15, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., the Kenosha Water Utility conducted a wastewater release to prevent residential flooding. This action followed a 48-hour rainfall accumulation of 2.78 inches in Kenosha, exacerbating already saturated ground conditions.
The utility informed the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources about the bypass event occurring at 89th Street and 17th Avenue. Such measures raise concerns about potential ecological impacts on Lake Michigan, necessitating ongoing monitoring of water quality in the region.
