Kent City Council Approves $18.3 Million Sale of Naden Property to Mortenson for Manufacturing Campus
Kent City Council approved the sale of a 9.3-acre Naden property to Mortenson Development for $18.3 million to establish a manufacturing campus. The council seeks a manufacturer, ideally in aerospace, to enhance local job creation and economic activity. Mortenson estimates the project could generate $62 million in its first year and up to $1.1 billion over 20 years. The city has previously owned the property since 2006 and has shifted plans from an aquatic center to this new development.

The Kent City Council voted 7-0 on February 3 to sell the 9.3-acre Naden property for $18.3 million to Mortenson Development, aiming to develop a manufacturing campus. The city hopes to attract an aerospace manufacturer due to its historical ties with Boeing and Blue Origin.
Mortenson's proposal indicates potential economic benefits of $62 million in the first year and $1.1 billion over 20 years. The property has been owned since 2006, and its sale follows unsuccessful previous development attempts, including plans for an aquatic center and a hotel. Mortenson plans to build a new street connecting Willis Street to Meeker Street as part of the agreement.
