Kenya Advances Circular Economy Strategy with Private Sector Collaboration
Kenya's Circular Economy Strategy and Implementation Plan (CESIP) aims to transition to a sustainable model by 2026. Supported by the Finnish Innovation Fund, this initiative focuses on enhancing resource efficiency and reducing waste across multiple sectors.

Kenya's Circular Economy Strategy and Implementation Plan (CESIP) will be executed from April to November 2026, involving over 110 stakeholders from government, academia, and civil society. The initiative, supported by the Finnish Innovation Fund and facilitated by the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), seeks to replace the linear economic model with a circular one, enhancing resource efficiency and minimizing waste.
Key sectors targeted include plastics, agriculture, textiles, electronics, and construction. The strategy will adopt a phased approach including stakeholder engagement and situational analysis. The Ministry of Environment emphasizes the necessity of inclusive collaboration and the importance of Extended Producer Responsibility regulations in improving waste management and fostering local manufacturing. This initiative may unlock economic opportunities and support sustainable production in Kenya.
