Kenya is planning to develop a mega-scale green hydrogen plant near Mombasa to produce zero-carbon hydrogen for domestic use and export. The project utilizes Kenya's renewable energy resources, including over 10,000 MW of geothermal potential, strong wind patterns, and high solar radiation.
The plant will use seawater for hydrogen production through desalination, minimizing pressure on freshwater resources. Additionally, it will feature a data center with over 100 MW capacity. The initiative aims to promote local manufacturing and create skilled jobs, potentially supporting carbon-neutral fertilizers and green steel production.
