KERC Drafts 2026 Regulations to Enhance Distributed Solar in Karnataka
Karnataka's draft DSPV Regulations 2026 aim to modernize solar power integration with the grid, supporting renewable energy growth. The framework introduces new metering options and mandates for system reliability, addressing challenges in grid stability.

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has proposed draft regulations for Grid Interactive Distributed Solar Photovoltaic (DSPV) Plants for 2026, aiming to replace the 2016 Solar Rooftop Photovoltaic Regulations. These regulations redefine solar installations to include various configurations beyond rooftops, such as building facades and ground-mounted systems, and introduce six metering arrangements including net billing and gross metering for diverse consumer categories.
Notably, systems above 10 kW must utilize hybrid inverters or battery storage, while installations below 150 kW are limited to 80% of local transformer capacity. The framework also streamlines the approval process, removing PPA requirements for small domestic projects and imposing penalties for delays in inspections.
