Key Discussions at Dewan Rakyat Focus on Water Tariff Adjustments and National Development Plans
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 á The ongoing Dewan Rakyat session is set to concentrate on critical issues surrounding the monitoring and audit mechanisms related to the additional revenue generated from recent water tariff adjustments. These adjustments were implemented to fund the repair and development of water supply infrastructure. Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) has raised this concern, directing questions to the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation about the accountability measures for water operators who fail to meet established key performance indicators (KPIs) following the tariff adjustments.
In addition, Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) will inquire about the government's strategies to achieve a 19% tariff negotiation result with the United States, including the concessions extended by Malaysia. Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) plans to question the Foreign Minister on actions taken to engage the international community, particularly the United Nations, in response to ongoing conflicts in Gaza.
Another key issue will be raised by Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Bukit Bendera), who will seek information from the Minister of Transport on initiatives to enhance public transportation accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), drawing inspiration from Korean practices that incorporate sign language and Braille.
Furthermore, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak) will address the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development regarding the registration of informal workers in the care economy and the preparations for an aging society.
The session will culminate in a debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, outlining the strategic development framework for Malaysia from 2026 to 2030. The Dewan Rakyat will convene for a total of 24 days, concluding on August 28.
In summary, the session reflects significant governmental priorities, including infrastructure development, international relations, social inclusion, and long-term strategic planning for the nation.
