KGHM Expands Interest in Argentina's Copper and Silver Resources Amid Investment Climate Reforms

STRATEGIC MINERALS

KGHM is targeting Argentina's copper and silver resources as part of its expansion strategy, supported by favorable investment conditions and an agreement with Mercosur. Argentina's copper reserves are estimated at 65-75 million tons, with total resources exceeding 116 million tons by 2025.

Key mining projects in San Juan province are valued at $22 billion. The country's new economic reforms, including the RIGI law, aim to attract global investors by providing legal stability and tax incentives over 30 years.

Major mining companies such as Newmont and Barrick Gold are involved in Argentina's resource extraction. In 2025, mining exports reached $6.037 billion, with gold leading at $4.078 billion. Argentina aims to be among the top ten global copper producers, with potential production of 793,000 tons annually by the end of the decade. Current projects include Lundin Mining's Josemaria, which seeks to produce over 130,000 tons per year.
