Kimo Martinez Commissioned as US Space Force Officer Following Family Legacy
Kimo Martinez was commissioned as a U.S. Space Force officer on December 21, 2025, by his father, retired Colonel Kato Martinez. A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in aerospace engineering, he was the only cadet from AFROTC Detachment 825 to commission in December. Martinez's journey included overcoming the loss of his mother in a terrorist attack in Brussels in 2016, with support from the military community aiding his family's recovery.

On December 21, 2025, 2nd Lt. Kimo Martinez was commissioned into the U.S. Space Force by his father, retired Colonel Kato Martinez.
He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in aerospace engineering and was the sole cadet from AFROTC Detachment 825 to commission that month. Martinez's path included personal adversity; his mother died in a 2016 Brussels Airport attack, leading to his family's relocation and rehabilitation in San Antonio. There, he thrived in the structure of JROTC, which his father enrolled him in to help with his development.
