Kit Carson Electric Cooperative to Begin Questa Hydrogen Project in June
Kit Carson Electric Cooperative will commence its Questa hydrogen and solar facility project in June 2023, backed by $231 million in federal funding. The initiative aims to create a hydrogen hub with electrolyzers and storage systems by 2028, providing long-duration energy storage for up to 25,000 homes and generating over 350 construction jobs, while also collaborating with the Village of Questa on a solar array to enhance local revenue. This project seeks to diversify the regional economy following the closure of the Chevron molybdenum mine.

Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) confirmed that its Questa hydrogen and solar facility will break ground in June 2023. The project secured $231 million in federal funding and aims to develop a hydrogen hub with electrolyzers and storage systems by 2028.
It is designed to provide long-duration energy storage for up to 25,000 homes, support local economies, and create over 350 construction jobs. KCEC is also collaborating with the Village of Questa on a solar array to boost local revenue.
