KLIA Baggage Handling System Failure Due to Power Fault; 1,061 Bags Shortshipped

On April 18, a high-voltage power fault at Bukit Raja substation caused a failure in the baggage handling system (BHS) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport's Terminal 1. A total of 23,769 bags were processed during the disruption, with 1,061 reported as shortshipped.
Flight schedules remained unaffected, and no delays or cancellations occurred. The Transport Ministry is conducting a thorough review to address operational gaps and has ordered an overhaul of baggage handling protocols.
Emergency measures included manual procedures and additional manpower. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia is investigating to ensure compliance with safety standards. Weekly progress updates on stabilization efforts will be provided by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.
