KoBold Metals and ZCCM-IH Launch Mingomba Copper Mine Development Project
KoBold Metals and ZCCM-IH have commenced shaft construction at the Mingomba copper mine, backed by a $150 million investment. The project anticipates annual production of 300,000 tonnes beginning in the early 2030s, with total capital expenditures estimated between $2.3 and $2.5 billion.

Shaft construction at the Mingomba copper mine began on April 29, 2026, following a $150 million investment from KoBold Metals and ZCCM-IH. The project targets an annual output of 300,000 tonnes starting in the early 2030s, with capital costs projected to be between $2.3 billion and $2.5 billion.
ZCCM-IH, currently holding a 20% stake, plans to increase its share to 25%. Concurrently, the Lobito Corridor railway development will improve copper transport logistics. Previous drilling by Anglovaal and TEAL has informed current operations, while KoBold employs machine-learning technologies to utilize extensive geological data for exploration optimization. This project could significantly impact regional copper supply chains and market dynamics.
