KOSTT Secures Land for US-Funded 45 MW Battery Project in Kosovo
Transmission System and Market Operator (KOSTT) of Kosovo signed a contract with the Ministry of Economy and Municipality of Ferizaj for 2.3 hectares of land designated for a 45 MW battery energy storage system (BESS). This project is funded through the US Millennium Challenge Compact, initiated in 2022.
The facility will support KOSTT's automatic frequency restoration reserve and is located near Sojeva village and Camp Bondsteel. The total agreement is valued at USD 236.7 million, with the Government of Kosovo contributing USD 34.7 million.
In addition to this, a second battery project is planned for Peja, with a capacity of 125 MW and 250 MWh, requiring an estimated USD 180 million investment. Overall, the Millennium Challenge Corporation has allocated over USD 200 million for these energy projects aimed at enhancing energy security and promoting clean energy in Kosovo.
