KRG Specialist Engineering Welcomes Third Generation Apprentice Ashton Hughes
KRG Specialist Engineering has welcomed Ashton Hughes as a third-generation apprentice, continuing the family legacy of the Coatbridge-based firm founded in 1978 by his grandfather, James Hughes. The company, which supplies high-tolerance components to various sectors, was recently acquired by Japanese company Torishima, positioning it for expansion into high-growth areas like renewables and hydrogen while maintaining its operations in Scotland.

KRG Specialist Engineering has appointed Ashton Hughes as an apprentice, marking a significant milestone as he is the grandson of founder James Hughes and son of current managing director Gerry Hughes. Founded in 1978, the Coatbridge-based company has evolved from a family-run workshop to a leading precision engineering firm.
Ashton will learn hands-on in the workshop, continuing the family legacy and emphasizing the company's commitment to the local community. KRG, which supplies high-tolerance components to sectors including defence, oil and gas, and manufacturing, was acquired by Japanese company Torishima in December. This acquisition is expected to enhance KRG's position for expansion into high-growth sectors such as renewables and hydrogen, while maintaining operations in Scotland.
