Kärnten Allocates €54 Million for Hydrogen Projects at Klagenfurt Summit
Kärnten announces €54 million for hydrogen initiatives following record participation at the fourth Hydrogen Summit in Klagenfurt. The region aims to strengthen national and international cooperation and has earmarked €1 million for innovative hydrogen projects. Kärnten, positioned as a 'Hydrogen Valley', is set to launch five pilot projects as it prepares for significant hydrogen imports from North Africa.

Kärnten is investing €54 million in hydrogen projects after the fourth Hydrogen Summit in Klagenfurt attracted 180 registrations. This represents a significant increase in interest, positioning Kärnten as a 'Hydrogen Valley' alongside Steiermark and Oberösterreich.
The region plans five pilot projects and has allocated €1 million for innovative developments. Currently, Austria consumes approximately 130,000 tons of gray hydrogen annually, primarily for fertilizer, chemical, and metal industries. With a projected demand of 1.4 million tons of green hydrogen by the mid-2030s, Kärnten is focusing on imports from North Africa, Scandinavia, and Ukraine, necessitating upgrades to existing gas infrastructure.
