Kuehne Climate Center Study: Global Offshore Wind Fleet Could Install 400 GW by 2030 with Market Alignment
A study by the Kuehne Climate Center indicates that the global fleet of wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs) and heavy lift vessels (HLVs) could install an additional 320 GW of offshore wind by 2030, raising total capacity to 400 GW, provided market conditions are favorable. China is expected to achieve approximately 225 GW through efficient demand and supply coordination.
European operators, alongside investments of EUR 2.5 to 4 billion annually over the next three years, could contribute 175 GW. Without these investments, global installations may reach only 365 GW. The study emphasizes the need for regular assessments of supply chain capacities and the establishment of a multi-regional coordination platform to improve vessel deployment strategies and support the offshore wind sector's growth.
