Kupwara's Mineral Reserves to Drive Industrial Growth in Jammu and Kashmir

Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir is recognized for its considerable mineral resources, including limestone, marble, lignite, graphite, and riverbed materials. The Department of Geology and Mining reports G4-level exploration for limestone in Trehgam, with investigations upgraded under NMET funding.

Marble reserves are estimated at 26.81 million tonnes across 12 identified blocks. Lignite exploration has commenced in Nichahom Block, with core drilling by MECL indicating nearly 9 million tonnes. Additionally, 12 mining leases for riverbed material have been granted via e-auctions, ensuring compliance with J&K Minor Mineral Concession Rules. The government is promoting industrial development linked to these resources.
