Kyushu Electric Resumes Chinda Hydropower Operations Post Upgrade
Kyushu Electric Power has restarted the Chinda Hydropower Plant, enhancing its efficiency and capacity. The upgrades are significant for renewable energy goals and climate initiatives.

Kyushu Electric Power resumed operations at the Chinda Hydropower Plant on April 1 after completing extensive renovations that began in May 2022. The upgrades increased annual output by 7% to approximately 58 million kilowatt-hours, sufficient for around 19,300 households.
Maximum output capacity is now 9,900 kilowatts, representing a 19% increase achieved through the replacement of turbines and generators, along with enhancements to water conduits and reinforcement of channels. Originally commissioned in 1923 and last upgraded in 1980, this project aligns with renewable energy expansion efforts and climate change mitigation strategies. The increased capacity may enhance energy security domestically.
