The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved a 30-year lease with Yusen Terminals, facilitating a $200 million investment in zero-emission cargo-handling equipment. This partnership, extending Yusen's tenure at the port until 2056, underscores the commitment to clean air initiatives and sustainable operations in the maritime industry.

The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved a 30-year lease with Yusen Terminals, ensuring the company's operations at the Port of Los Angeles continue through 2056. Yusen Terminals, which has a footprint of 232 acres at Berths 212-224, will invest $200 million in zero-emission cargo-handling equipment.
The terminal has been transitioning to zero-emission operations and currently uses electric top handlers, forklifts, and hydrogen fuel-cell equipment. Owned by Ocean Network Express, Yusen Terminals plays a vital role in stevedoring and specialized cargo-handling. The lease extension reflects both parties' commitment to advancing clean air initiatives but poses risks if emissions targets are not met, potentially affecting regulatory compliance.
