Lafayette County Supervisors Reject Industrial Park Rezoning Request
The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors voted 3-1 to deny a rezoning request for the Max D. Hipp Industrial Park, impacting light industrial development plans. This decision could affect future job growth and economic development in the area.

The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors denied a rezoning petition for portions of the Max D. Hipp Industrial Park in a 3-1 vote. The request sought to change three parcels from heavy industrial (I-2) to light industrial (I-1), which would require conditional approval for heavier uses.
Approximately 576 acres in the industrial park are designated for heavy industrial use, including facilities for gravel, wastewater treatment, and a proposed asphalt plant. Opposition from the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation highlighted concerns about potential job growth hindrance due to the reclassification.
Proponents of the rezoning argued it aligns with a 2022 industrial park master plan aiming for a technology-focused development. Additionally, residents raised health and safety concerns, citing nearby residential areas. The decision may deter future investments and impact the local economic landscape.
