Larry Ellison Surpasses Elon Musk as Oracle Stock Soars, Boosting Net Worth Significantly

SPACE ECONOMY

In a remarkable shift within the ranks of the world's wealthiest individuals, Larry Ellison, the 81-year-old founder of Oracle, has outpaced Elon Musk following a substantial surge in Oracle's stock, which soared nearly 40% during early U.S. trading. This unprecedented rise, attributed to optimistic forecasts regarding the company’s cloud business, has augmented Ellison's net worth by approximately $100 billion, bringing his total to an estimated $393 billion. In contrast, Musk's wealth is assessed at $385 billion, although Forbes claims his fortune is significantly higher, at around $463 billion.

Ellison's wealth is more straightforward to gauge, primarily derived from his 40% stake in Oracle. Musk’s financial landscape is more complex, encompassing significant shares in Tesla and interests in private ventures such as SpaceX and his AI company, xAI.

The soaring Oracle stock reflects investors’ excitement following the company’s announcement of a 55% year-on-year growth in cloud infrastructure revenue, totaling $3.3 billion in the last quarter. Oracle has also projected a remarkable 77% increase for the current fiscal year, anticipating cloud revenues of $18 billion, and aiming for $144 billion by the end of the fiscal year in May 2030.

The company is strategically positioning itself within the burgeoning market of artificial intelligence, planning to supply cloud computing power to OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT. Current clients include major players like TikTok and NVIDIA, indicating Oracle's expanding influence in technology.

Additionally, since the start of the 2022 season, Oracle has been a title sponsor for Red Bull Racing in Formula 1. The British-Austrian racing team, featuring superstar Max Verstappen, competes under the name Oracle Red Bull Racing.

Leveraging the success of their previous championship, the team intends to utilize Oracle’s cloud solutions for critical applications, including data-driven racing strategies and enhanced engine development. Christian Horner, the team's former managing director, emphasized the importance of data analysis in their operations, underscoring Oracle's expertise as a trusted partner in their journey.
