Las Tunas Faces Energy Challenges Despite 64.8 MW Solar Capacity
Las Tunas province has installed eight solar parks with a combined capacity of 64.8 MW, yet residents receive only 2.5 hours of electricity daily. This limited output contributes to ongoing national energy deficits exceeding 2,300 MW, highlighting systemic issues in electrical generation and distribution.

Las Tunas has eight solar photovoltaic parks with a theoretical capacity of 64.8 MW, but they provide an average of only 2.5 hours of electricity per day. Despite the parks' completion, residents experience frequent blackouts amid a national energy crisis.
The parks include major sites like Nueva Línea and Veguita, with the latter under construction. The seven synchronized parks contributed 53 MW as of January. Technical limitations, such as fluctuations due to cloud cover, affect stability.
The Punta Brava park's battery aims to support local infrastructure. Plans for the La Herradura Uno wind park, with a capacity of 34 MW, are underway, projected for completion by 2026. Further experiments in renewable self-sufficiency are anticipated.
