Launch of Australia's First Electric Hydrofoiling Network on Derwent River
Fly Derwent and Vessev are introducing Australia's inaugural electric hydrofoiling passenger service in Tasmania. The initiative emphasizes sustainable transport solutions that leverage the region's renewable energy resources amid increasing fuel volatility.

Fly Derwent is set to launch Australia's first electric hydrofoiling passenger network on Tasmania's Derwent River, utilizing Vessev's VS-9, a 10-seat electric hydrofoiling catamaran. The network will cover a 60-kilometre route from New Norfolk to Opossum Bay, with plans for additional VS-12 vessels, each accommodating 30 passengers.
Tasmania's nearly 100% renewable electricity generation, primarily from hydropower, will power the fleet, enhancing the service's environmental sustainability. The hydrofoiling technology offers up to three times the efficiency of conventional vessels, addressing range and drag issues. This project may serve as a model for sustainable transport solutions, potentially influencing other cities globally to rethink their water mobility strategies.
