Launch of Open Season for Zeeland Energy Terminal to Enhance LNG Import Capacity in the Netherlands
VTTI and Höegh Evi have initiated an open season for the Zeeland Energy Terminal, set to enhance LNG import capacity in the Netherlands with a target operational date of late 2029. The terminal will offer approximately 7.5 bcm per annum of send-out capacity and 180,000 cubic meters of storage, addressing the growing demand for LNG in Europe. Additionally, the Dutch hydrogen network has marked a milestone by filling its first pipeline section in Rotterdam with green hydrogen, contributing to the development of a hydrogen market amidst economic and regulatory challenges.

VTTI and Höegh Evi have launched an open season for the Zeeland Energy Terminal, aimed at developing LNG import infrastructure in the Netherlands, operational by late 2029. The terminal will provide approximately 7.5 bcm per annum of send-out capacity and 180,000 cubic meters of LNG storage.
A final investment decision is anticipated by Q3 2027. The project responds to Dutch and European demands for reliable LNG capacity, supporting energy security and market flexibility. Concurrently, the Dutch hydrogen network has successfully filled its first pipeline section in Rotterdam with 32 tonnes of green hydrogen, marking a key milestone in establishing a hydrogen market in the Netherlands.
The project aims to connect with broader European hydrogen infrastructure, despite facing economic and regulatory challenges. German utility Uniper is also advancing plans for a 500MW electrolyser to produce green hydrogen.
