LCOR Completes NYC's Largest District Geothermal Project at 1515 Surf Avenue, Coney Island
LCOR has completed the 1515 Surf Avenue project in Brooklyn, New York, which incorporates the largest district geothermal system in New York City. Finished in 2024, the 400,000-square-foot project includes over 460 residential units and retail space.
LCOR utilized various incentives, including $1.62 million from New York's community heat pump pilot program and $2.9 million from Con Edison, to reduce costs. The geothermal system features 153 bore wells drilled to 500 feet, demonstrating the feasibility of geothermal energy in urban areas. A feasibility study preceded installation, and it is noted that geothermal systems can be effective for smaller properties as well, offering long-term cost savings and low maintenance once operational.
