Leadership Reshuffle at Air Products Signals Strategic Shift Back to Core Competencies

HYDROGEN

Air Products has announced a significant leadership change within its investor relations team, appointing Megan Britt as Vice-President of Investor Relations, effective August 11. Britt succeeds Eric Guter, who has been with the company since 1995 and previously led its hydrogen mobility initiatives. Guterás departure is framed as a move to pursue other opportunities, marking the second high-profile exit in recent weeks following the replacement of General Secretary Sean Major with Matthew Lepore.

Britt brings extensive experience from notable firms such as Archer-Daniels Midland, Tyson Foods, Corteva Agriscience, and DuPont, and will report directly to CFO Melissa Schaeffer. Schaeffer emphasized the importance of Britt's expertise in enhancing relationships with analysts and investors while maintaining a focus on shareholder value through capital discipline and productivity.

These leadership changes are part of a broader strategic pivot under new CEO Eduardo Menezes, who was appointed earlier this year after the ousting of former CEO Seifi Ghasemi. Under Ghasemi, Air Products ventured into high-capital projects, including clean hydrogen developments, which diverged from its traditional industrial gas business model. This shift raised investor concerns over the companyás financial stability, reflected in a significant decline in cash reserves and an increase in debt levels.

Menezes has already initiated a $3.1 billion write-down as the company exits three U.S. projects, including a green hydrogen plant and a sustainable aviation fuel initiative. The strategic focus is now returning to core capabilities, prompting industry experts to anticipate further executive changes to align with Menezes' vision.

In conclusion, Air Products is actively restructuring its leadership to stabilize operations and realign its strategic focus towards traditional industrial gas markets, aiming to enhance shareholder confidence and financial health.
