Lefdal Mine Datacenter Expands Capacity and Launches Advanced Supercomputer Olivia in Norway

Lefdal Mine Datacenter, located 60 meters below sea level in Nordfjordeid, Norway, is expanding its capacity to support high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The facility, operational since 2017, currently offers 120,000 sqm across three levels, with future plans for additional capacity of 200MW on Level 4.

In September 2025, it inaugurated 'Olivia,' a supercomputer equipped with 304 Nvidia GPUs and 64,512 AMD CPUs, delivering 13.2 petaflops of performance. Lefdal is fully powered by renewable hydro and wind energy, achieving a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.15.

The facility is designed for security and environmental sustainability, with plans to reuse heated water for local salmon hatchery operations, contributing to its carbon neutrality goal. Sigma2, a state-owned company, selected Lefdal for its predictable scalability, local infrastructure support, and environmental performance.
