Legal Setback for Data Centre Project Near Houghton Regis Amid Water Usage Concerns
A legal challenge has prompted Central Bedfordshire Council to revisit the approval of a data centre plan by Colliers Properties LLC. The council must address concerns over water usage and mitigation measures before a final decision is made, impacting investment and development timelines.

Central Bedfordshire Council's development management committee will reconsider Colliers Properties LLC's data centre proposal due to legal challenges regarding water usage and mitigation measures. The project, covering 21.5 acres, includes a substation, parking, and landscaping, and is part of a strategic allocation in the CBC Local Plan.
A third-party objection highlighted potential issues with climate-related and renewable energy measures not being adequately secured, prompting legal advice to return the matter to committee. The council has not yet issued a decision notice, allowing it to address outstanding concerns. The data centre is part of an £8bn investment plan by the operator in the UK by 2028, emphasizing the significance of this development for local economic growth.
