Leiden University and BigCircle Ventures Launch Gas Leak Detection Spin-off
Leiden University and BigCircle Ventures have launched a spin-off to develop affordable gas leak detection technology. This technology enables real-time monitoring of industrial gases like NO2, ammonia, CO2, and methane, addressing safety, health, and climate risks. The compact devices aim for continuous insight rather than local snapshot checks. The project builds on the optical measurement techniques developed at Leiden Observatory, with plans to recruit a CEO and finalize investment to bring the technology to market.

Leiden University and BigCircle Ventures have established a spin-off focused on gas leak detection technology to provide faster, cheaper, and more reliable monitoring for industrial gases, including NO2, ammonia, CO2, and methane. Existing detection solutions are expensive and limited to localized checks, creating safety and climate risks.
The new technology aims to offer continuous monitoring with compact devices for inspectors. The initiative leverages polarisation measurement techniques from Leiden Observatory's instrumentation group. BigCircle Ventures will recruit a CEO and finalize plans to commercialize the technology.
