Lenox Township Delays Data Center Ordinances Amid Resident Concerns
The Lenox Township Planning Commission has deferred data center ordinance recommendations due to public opposition. This decision follows a recent expired moratorium and growing resident dissatisfaction over transparency regarding potential data center projects.

On March 28, 2023, the Lenox Township Planning Commission voted 4-2 to halt the forwarding of draft ordinances concerning data centers and the proposed I-94 development district to the Board of Trustees. This decision comes in light of resident outcry and concerns about transparency, particularly after a moratorium expired the same day.
Residents are worried about potential land offers from data center companies and have encountered pro-data center communications from a Lansing nonprofit. The Macomb County Election Commission will review new resident petitions on June 15, 2023, aiming for further clarity on the matter. Ongoing communication issues may lead to heightened tensions between residents and township officials.
