Lewiston Implements Zoning Code Amendments and Data Center Moratorium
Lewiston's town board has enacted zoning code changes and a new 18-month moratorium on data centers. This decision is significant as it addresses regulatory gaps in the rapidly evolving data center sector, particularly concerning environmental and resource management.

The Town of Lewiston has approved modifications to its zoning code, incorporating nearly 20 amendments related to building permits, rural area usage, and height regulations. These changes follow over three years of discussion, particularly focusing on building height, and were proposed by Wendel Engineering in conjunction with a new comprehensive plan.
Additionally, an 18-month moratorium on data centers linked to cryptomining and artificial intelligence has been established. This moratorium allows the town to develop regulations amidst concerns about resource usage and environmental impact.
A separate local law regarding farm events was withdrawn for further revision. These measures indicate a proactive approach to managing growth and potential environmental risks associated with data facilities.
