Lidl Establishes Massive Data Centers to Compete with Amazon and Microsoft
Lidl has begun constructing large data centers to enhance data security and compete with tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft. Nine years after recognizing data risks, the company is leasing its servers to major firms, including SAP and Bayern Munich, with the ambition to become the first independent European hyperscaler, according to Bernd Wagner, CEO of Lidl's cloud division, Stackit.

Lidl's owner initiated the construction of large data centers due to concerns over data security with major tech companies. Nine years later, Lidl aims to challenge giants like Amazon and Microsoft. In response to similar risks recognized by other German companies, Lidl has started leasing its servers to large firms such as SAP and Bayern Munich. Bernd Wagner, CEO of Stackit, Lidl's cloud and data center division, stated the goal is to become the first independent European hyperscaler.
